1929 oil, canvas 81.2×64.4cm

In many of Kisling’s female portraits, the woman’s head is tilted slightly to one side and she has a melancholy air about her, expressed also by her almond-shaped eyes. It is a style that has much in common with that of his close friend Modigliani, who had died at a young age. But the two showed major differences in their use of color.
