LE SIDANER, Henri1862～1939
In 1901, Le Sidanier visited the old fortified town of Gerberoy in France. He became enchanted with this town and before long acquired a residence and land there. Following Monet’s example, after restoring the garden to good condition he went on painting it passionately for the rest of his life. In this work we see an expansive array of climbing roses illuminated by the moonlight of a summer evening. They are so skillfully represented that they seem almost to exude fragrance.
