Slenderly elongated proportions, upper body in an easeful S-shape pose, almond-shaped eyes – these and other features of this work are typical of Modigliani’s human figure paintings in his closing years. The influence of his revered Cézanne is seen in the restrained coloring and in the constructional treatment of the background. The model for the work is thought to be his friend the painter Louis Triquigneaux.
