Maurice UTRILLO
《Rue à Montmorency》
《A Street in Montmorency》

circa 1912 oil, canvas 58.6×79.7cm

A work from Utrillo’s “white period”, which was the most distinguished of his painting career. A radical perspective is employed that makes the picture as a whole recede abruptly away to a vanishing point. Utrillo often used postcards of famous places as reference in painting his scenes. From the distinctive shape of the steeple on the church in its center, this work is thought to depict the town of Montmorency in the northern outskirts of Paris.
